I LOVED the culture class!

Juliann from Fall 2018

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really enjoyed being able to meet Japanese college students. I would love for there to be more opportunities to converse with native Japanese speakers other than our teachers.

Which co-curriculum classes did you find most satisfying?

I LOVED the culture class! The field trips after the lectures were incredibly interesting and informative. The Yamanashi Trip was absolutely the highlight of the term for me.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The conversation practices in class were really helpful. KCP grades pretty hard on tests, but it only made me study harder. The intonation tests were probably my least favorite part of the class. Some of my friends in other classes only had to memorize the intonations of the words themselves, but my class was required to completely memorize the script. I felt like I spent more time memorizing the words than really listening to the intonation itself.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

The field trips and the Yamanashi Trips were incredible experiences.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

Don't be intimidated by the 3-5 hours a day of studying. The homework load isn't overwhelming, and you study out of a desire to learn rather than because you have to.

Testimonials

If you’re considering KCP, just sign up. If you have to, save up for it. It was worth it. I continue to learn the language, I continue to make new friends, I continue to find new, unfamiliar and exciting places and all of this was possible because I made the decision to learn at KCP. I have met some really great people (friends as well as teachers) who have helped me grow as a person. I’m thankful for this time I’ve spent here. It really has gone by too fast but I will forever remember the memories I’ve made here.
