The full immersion technique was effective.
Why did you select this program?
The price was lower than other programs; it was simple to sign up despite not attending a university anymore; my teacher recommended it; and I wanted to be able to go to the same school as my classmates, although I then had to change the term I originally signed up for.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
The most productive part of the program was that the classes were all in Japanese. It was a real confidence booster to be able to understand everything even though I hadn't had a class using the full immersion technique before, and I think that it was more effective to learn that way, especially at the intermediate level. The least interesting part were the earlier Saturday lectures. Since I've been studying for several years I already knew a lot of the cultural information, but it can't really be helped since the classes are for students of all different levels. I did still learn some new things, though, and the teachers were entertaining.
How satisfied were you with the teachers and classroom environment?
Very Satisfied
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
Writing example sentences and seeing the corrections on them and on tests was the most helpful to me. I can learn to at least understand new grammar points on my own, but I can't spot my own mistakes.
Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?
Just taking classes isn't enough. You have to be proactive about using your Japanese.
