KCP Fall 2016 Students at the National Diet Building and Asakusa

As part of KCP’s mission in introducing the history and culture of Japan to students, last year our Fall 2016 batch visited the National Diet Building and Asakusa.

The National Diet (国会 Kokkai) is Japan’s bicameral legislature composed of a lower house and upper house. Both houses are under the parallel voting systems (mixed voting system where voters in effect participate in two separate elections for a single chamber using different systems). The National Diet passes laws and is responsible for selecting the Prime Minister of Japan.

The National Diet Building (国会議事堂 Kokkai-gijidō) is where both houses meet. It was completed in 1936 and was constructed out of Japanese materials.

Asakusa is conveniently located at the center of Tokyo’s popular districts. It is a perfect example of what Japan has to offer, from historical shrines and temples, to shopping, to experiencing everyday life.
