KCP International Japanese Language School

KCP provides the serious student with a unique opportunity to achieve proficiency in the Japanese language through total immersion. With a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1, KCP serves approximately 800 students per year. While most students are from other parts of Asia and all instruction is in Japanese, English-speaking staff provide language support, including special tutorials, as the need arises for our many U.S. students.

KCP is a convergence of students, aspiring teachers, interns, and professors. KCP teachers are carefully evaluated for teaching effectiveness and methodology, through a series of interviews and active observations. Tokyo-area university professors teach the new, innovative KCP Japanese-language teacher preparation program—the only one of its kind at a Japanese language institute. In addition, Japanese teachers-in-training from nearby universities serve supervised internships at KCP, to supplement your instruction and provide more interaction.

Founded in 1983, KCP is recognized as a leader in Japanese language education. KCP student scores on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken) are testimony to the high quality of language instruction at KCP. This test is administered by the Japan Foundation and the Association of International Education. Most students enrolled in KCP’s advanced classes are able to pass Test Level One (the most difficult). This designates a level of proficiency in the language that usually allows them to enter a Japanese university as a full time student.

KCP International Japanese Language School is located in Shinjuku, the business, entertainment, and shopping center of Tokyo. The campus is a 5-minute walk from the Shinjuku Gyoenmae Subway Station on the Marunouchi Line, or a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku san-chome subway station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line.

KCP Facilities

KCP International Japanese Language School is located in Shinjuku: the business, entertainment, and shopping center of Tokyo. The campus is a 5-minute walk from the Shinjuku Gyoenmae Subway Station on the Marunouchi Line, or a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku san-chome subway station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line. Shinjuku Avenue is lined with tall buildings, shopping complexes, and office structures. The KCP neighborhood, however, is filled with smaller buildings and shops. Shinjuku Gyoen, one of the largest parks in Tokyo and one of the most beautiful, is only a 5-minute walk from KCP. There are also a number of smaller parks close by where students can enjoy a peaceful break.

Offices are open 8:15 am-6 pm Monday through Friday. Morning classes start at 8:30 am; afternoon classes end by 6 pm. Campus amenities include a main office; classrooms; a study room; a computer room with word processing in English and Japanese, printer, and Internet access; and a sick room.

Certification
As of April, 2007, KCP International Japanese Language School, one of the largest and most highly recognized language institutes in Japan, has been granted Gakko Hojin status. Gakko Hojin is a rigorous evaluation and accreditation process which KCP has completed satisfactorily.

This new status is overseen by the Tokyo metropolitan government ministry, and KCP is now a not-for-profit educational foundation. Our new name is KCP International Japanese Language School. Both our new name and our Gakko Hojin status represent a significant step forward in the growth of this great school, where the quality of Japanese language and culture education comes first.

Japanese Teacher Training
KCP also offers a Japanese teacher training program for those who want to teach Japanese as a second language. It is taught by qualified professors from Tokyo universities who specialize in Japanese language education. The 6-month basic level focuses on instruction; the 6-month advanced level includes advanced instruction plus practicum. Once students have completed the program, KCP offers further opportunity to obtain experience as teaching assistants in selected U.S. universities.
